Immediate Past President: M. Tarling  House Committee: V. Smith
Administration Manager: J. Pilkington Buildings/Maintenance Committee: R. Rhodes

Club Development Manager: M. Tarling Catering Committee: I. Godfrey
Greens' Superintendent: J. Pickering

Club Captain: J. Kirkbride
Assistant Club Captain: L. Brown
Centre Delegate: M. Tarling

This year for the first time it was suggested that we appoint an assistant club captain. If the club captain is a male then a female would be appointed and vice a versa. The appointment for this year is Lois Brown. Congratulations Lois.
A major topic for discussion was raised by the retiring treasurer. In recent years we have had a lot of financial help in buying and replacing things that go with the running a club of our size. Most of these benefactors no longer have the resources to be able to help as much as they have done in the past. With this in mind Alan Snowdon suggested that now  was a good time to look at raising our annual subscription. This caused quite a lengthy debate in just how much would be enough. It was proposed and seconded that the next season (2010) subscription would be $200, with all other fees remaining as for the 2009/2010 season.
In keeping with the above it was moved and seconded that for the next winter bowling season there should be a small subscription of $5 per person and a $3 per game to help offset the increases expected for power and gst.

* NEW MEMBERS * NEW MEMBERS * NEW MEMBERS *

A major concern for the club is the decline of both men and women who play the game of bowls.
As a club we urgently need to increase our membership numbers. If every
member could make the effort to introduce 1 new member this season the membership would then be looking very healthy again.

Catering Convenor.

As no one could be persuaded to take on the position of catering convenor for the new season it was proposed that a roster be set up and that all members should take a turn at making the tea and doing the dishes on a Saturday afternoon. This has proved to be an unworkable system. It was passed at the first executive meeting that if any member wants a cup of tea on a Saturday afternoon they will have to make their own and be responsible for washing up and putting away what ever dishes etc. that are used.

Irene Godfrey will act as catering coordinator for the coming season .

Pat Gregory paid a tribute to Alan Snowden who after many years of looking after the finance’s of this club decided it was time to retire. Alan you were always an unknown factor on the green in previous years. I guess this season we had better look to our laurels. Good luck.

The Executive also confirmed that a NO Smoking policy ON the Green has been adopted and signs will be erected before the start of the season.

The vice president is always elected at the first executive meeting and Alan Reid was returned to the position. Congratulations Alan.
On the day of the annual general meeting Bev Croft approached most of the women to see how many women would like to play in the 2/4s on Saturday mornings. Since then we have received advice that this is now to be played on Saturday afternoons. This competition runs for six weeks from October 9th to November 20th. Please check the notice board in the locker room for this and other notices about centre fixtures as entries close soon after opening day.

Our thanks also go to the those people who after the A.G.M. volunteered to help Mick with the twilight and corporate bowls. Both of these bring in much needed funds to the club each year. Mick will co-ordinate these groups.

Opening Day!!

Saturday, September 18.
1.30.

During the past few weeks World Cup fever also hit our bowling club where a sweepstake took place. The winner was Val Smith with John Elley second. A profit of $50.00 was banked as part of the social committee fundraising effort.

Believe it or not!!!!

How often have you seen this?
Two shot bowls were sitting lengthwise on the rink. The "down" skip's last bowl was a beauty, straight as an arrow and right between the two bowls without shifting them.
"I don't believe it, don't touch anything," said the skip as he went to retrieve his bowl from the ditch and tried to fit it between the two shot bowls.
It wouldn't go. The gap was a whisker smaller than the bowl. The speed of the drive created a cushion of air sufficient to rock the two enough to let the bowl go through.
Believe it or not but on retelling this story , the person who I was talking to, had actually seen this happen.
Social Committee.

The executive is still looking for a kind person to take over the responsibility of running the social committee. It needs someone with some good ideas for organizing some social events during the year; helping with the sausage sizzles, running raffles on the wheel every now and again etc., etc.
If this sounds like the sort of thing that you would be able to help with PLEASE  get in touch with Pat Gregory as soon as possible.

I wonder how many members of the club, saw in the sports pages of the Press recently that Bowls New Zealand was presenting  caps to past New Zealand representatives. I did and at a quick glance the names meant nothing to me. Last night at the executive meeting Pat showed us two black New Zealand bowls caps  with the numbers 47 and 50 embroidered on them. These were presented to the club and will  be forwarded to the families of Wally Wilkinson and Bruce Sinclair  Today I took time to check my copy of the Centenary  Hawkesbury  Green book. There I found that these two gentlemen had both won 5 National titles each. In 1968 W. Wilkinson was third in the national singles and also in that year he was selected as a member of the N. Z. bowling team to compete in the World Bowls tournament in South  Africa. In 1971 B. W. Sinclair was selected to go to England to play  for N. Z. in the World Bowling Tournament. If you have a copy of our centenary book dig it out and read for yourselves what they and other past members have done for the club.
It certainly was a golden era.

To the wives of our male members.
From time to time when we have had social functions I have had the pleasure of meeting some of you. Some of you have in the past remarked that you wouldn’t mind giving a hand now and again when we had tournaments or social occasions; when we need just a couple more pairs of hands to help lighten the load. If you feel you would like to help please give me, Irene Godfrey, a ring at 3525 966. I would love to hear from you.
