If at first you don't succeed, instead of blaming the bowls or someone else, why not ask for some coaching?


COACHING  DVD.
Our club owns a DVD called “Coaching Lawn Bowls – The New Zealand Way”.
You are very welcome to borrow this, maximum of seven days, there is no charge. It is a “must see” for all new bowlers and those wanting to improve their bowling. It demonstrates correct technique, shows bowling strategies to practise and illustrates common faults.
Please contact any of the coaches if you want to borrow the DVD.

The Eight Character Qualities for Bowlers.

1)    Self Discipline.
Hard work and discipline to training. Practising self control. Always doing your best.

2)    Respect.
High regard for coaches and officials, fans, self and the club you are representing.

3)    Responsibility.
Being dependable to carry out obligations and duties. Reliability and consistency in words and conduct.

4)    Good Judgment.
Choosing worthy and realistic goals. Setting priorities. Following the rules and leading others to follow them too.

5)    Integrity.
Developing inner strength to be fair and courteous at competition. Acting positively and honourably to team mates and opponents.

6)    Kindness.
Being considerate and generous in spirit to opponents. Showing care, compassion and friendship in victory or defeat. Treating others as you would like to be treated.

7)    Courage.
Having the courage to do the right thing even when others do not. Having the strength to exhibit fairness and to gracefully accept the results of the contest. To attempt skills that are worthwhile.

8)    Perseverance.
Being persistent in pursuit of worthy objects in spite of opposition, difficulties, injuries, handicaps or discouragement. Exhibiting patience and having the fortitude to try again when confronted with mistakes or failures.

ACT CONFIDENTLY AND BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
Set realistic performance goals
Practise the skills
Expect to perform up to your current abilities
Be in good physical condition
Measure success in terms of your goals (not in terms of winning)
Use positive self-talk
Act confidently
Trust yourself
Embrace competition – it is the reward for practice
Mistakes happen - learn to deal with disappointment
Persevere
