One Year Ago! 19 - 2 - 11
Match of the day was the men's fours final. This was an epic 3hrs and 20 min marathon and a match worthy of a club final. The score of 18 - 12, and the fact that Walsh got the lead in the third end and never relinquished it, did not show just how close and tense the game was. Both skips played superbly; Colin Green an several occasions killed ends of multiple shots to keep his team in the hunt. Brian Walsh saved a six down end with a brilliant shot to ease the pressure somewhat.
Probably the Walsh four was more consistent overall and this was the difference between the two teams.
This is the second year in a row the Walsh four has won the title.

Christchurch was rocked again by another strong and particularly violent  earthquake at 12.50pm. It was a bitter pill to swallow for those who may have been close to getting over the September one. It certainly put the game of bowls into perspective.
Once again the club buildings escaped any major damage.

A special general meeting was held to discuss the future development of the club. Thoughts and options that the St. Albans-Merivale Bowling Club needed to consider were presented to the members at a special general meeting held after the bowls on Saturday, February 13, by finance manager Allen Snowden and development officer Mick Tarling.
The meeting gave the executive the authority to pursue negotiations and feasibility studies that were deemed appropriate.
From the figures given by Allen it was clear that the club cannot carry on as at present with both finance and membership seen as serious concerns.
The club has an annual turnover of somewhere in the vicinity of $70 - $80 000. Annual subscriptions bring in around $10 - $11 000 from which when G.S.T. is taken and Bowls N.Z. and Bowls Canterbury take their piece only approximately $6 000 remains. Add to that the club had had no charity money that financial year it was obvious why Allen was concerned.
Discussions have taken place with other bowling clubs and the proposed Westminster complex development.
